Each July, the Badwater 135 gathers 100 men and women from across the globe to run across Death Valley and up three mountain ranges to high on Mount Whitney, widely considered the world's toughest foot race. The C135 is our special edition C1, tailored to that challenge.

Built for races in extreme heat, it pairs the C1's dual-layer CircleCELLâ„¢ midsole, crafted from sustainable materials, with an ultralight, breathable, fast-drying woven mesh upper engineered for the desert. A reflective midsole coating adds low-light visibility, and the TUNEDFITâ„¢ dual lacing system tunes the forefoot and midfoot separately.

Mount to Coast publish foot length separately for the men's and women's ranges, and the two differ by about 5 mm at the same EU size. Measure your foot, then read the foot length column for the range you are buying. If you are between sizes, choose the larger size for better comfort.

Measuring your foot

You will need a piece of paper that fits your foot and a writing instrument to mark your foot's length. Having someone to help you with this could also be beneficial.

  1. On a hard floor, put a piece of paper against a wall.
  2. Stand on the paper in socks you would normally wear with this type of shoe.
  3. Ensure the back of your heel is against the wall and that you're placing your weight evenly on your foot.
  4. Ask someone to make a mark on the paper at the end of your longest toe.
  5. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper that touched the wall where your heel was to the mark at your longest toe. That is the length of your foot.
  6. Repeat this process on your other foot.
  7. It's common to have one foot bigger than the other, so make sure you measure both feet. Pick your shoe size based on the length of your longer foot.

Badwater 135 runners in reflective vests at the start line at dusk, Death Valley

Badwater® 135 limited edition

Mount to Coast C135

The C1, rebuilt for the heat and the night of the world's toughest foot race.

Built for Badwater® 135

217 km from Death Valley to Mt Whitney

Badwater® 135 starts below sea level in Death Valley in the heat of July and finishes 217 km later at the Mt Whitney trailhead, about 2,550 m up. The gun goes late in the evening, so every runner spends at least one night on unlit desert roads. Mount to Coast partners with the race, and the C135 is the second limited edition built for it, after the R135 in 2025.

Built on the C1

Matthieu Bonne

The C135 is a limited edition of the C1, the super trainer Belgian record breaker Matthieu Bonne trains in. He took the 48-hour running record in 2025 and prepares at altitude in Kenya, often stacking back-to-back 100 km days. The C135 keeps that platform and adds a lighter, faster-drying upper for racing in extreme heat.

The highlights

What makes the C135

C135 dual-layer midsole with CircleCELL foam, close up

Light in the heat

262 g with 42 mm of cushion

An ultralight woven mesh upper that breathes and dries fast sits on a dual-layer midsole: CircleCELLâ„¢ foam over a stable rubberised EVA base. CircleCELL is the same supercritical foam used in the H1, with energy return on par with PEBA. 262 g (men's US 9), 6 mm drop.

Seen at night

Reflective midsole

Badwater® 135 runners have to be visible after dark. A highly reflective coating on the midsole catches headlights and head torches on unlit desert roads.

Tune in

TUNEDFITâ„¢ dual lacing

Set forefoot and midfoot fit separately, then adjust on the go as your feet swell through big temperature swings and long hours on the road.

Colour story

Badwater

A hi-viz colourway made for the desert road: bright enough to be seen, light enough to carry for 217 km.
